If you're looking for something different ,or just want to stand out from the crowd, our custom build service may be for you . At Wrights Bikes we aim to cater for everyone's needs and everyone's budget .

New Custom Builds

If you're looking for something individual and tailored to your specific needs we can build it . We would aim to start by speaking with you to find out exactly what you want and offer advice where needed depending on the main usages of your bike . We will then source any specific parts you would like and also offer alternatives if necessary . No building would start until you are happy with all the components chosen . We will then draw up an invoice for you, to include the labour cost and provide you with a final quote and completion date . Then all you have to do is sit back and wait .

Reconditioned Custom Builds

If you are looking for something different to everyone else but don't have an endless budget then Reconditioned Custom Builds may be for you . This will follow the same format as the New Custom Builds with the main difference being the inclusion of some reconditioned parts such as frames , forks , wheels etc . There will be some parts we would always recomend be new , for example chainset , chain and cassette .

The beauty of the Reconditioned Custom Build is it takes advantage of the wide variety of second hand frames available and allows you to design a bike which offers excellent value for money . It also gives you the chance to build a "Retro " bike and take you back to bikes of your past with modern tweeks .

The two photographs at the top of the page are examples of previous custom builds . The road bike was built using all new parts and was based around a carbon / alluminium frame and carbon forks . The downhill bikes was an example of a classic "retro" build with some reconditioned parts and some new parts . This was based on a Sintesi Bazooka frame from the 90's which , in its day , was a World Cup winner .

Carbon Custom Build

Below you will be able to see some more photos of our Carbon Road build . The idea for this bike was to utilise a good quality carbon / alluminium mix frame with carbon forks to produce a light weight and responsive bike . As this was on a budget we did not spec the highest groupset but instead carefully chose parts which were good value for money and only sacrificed a few onces on higher end components.

Norco Project

This page is dedicated to a project I have been planning for some time with my eldest son Max . This year the two of us , along with my middle son Ben , joined Woodland Riders . This is a downhill mountainbike club based in Tavistock , please view www.gawtongravityhub.co.uk  . Since joining the club all three of us have caught the downhill bug . A few months back we went down to the Woodland Riders Summer Jam held down at the tracks at Tavistock . It was an amazng weekend and it was at this time that Max put down a deposit on his first downhill full suspension frame , the Norco .

Over the next few weeks I will be helping Max build up his frame to hopefully produce a very nice downhill bike at the end of the build . I will aim to attach regular photographs to this page to show the stage by stage progression . This will hopefully give people an idea about what we do here with custom builds but if nothing else will hopefully be interesting for you to see the progression of the job to the final bike .

03/09/11 - The weeks of saving are finally over (for now anyway) and the Norco frame has been collected ready to start the build . We already had a set of Boxxer forks ready to go on so it was just a case of a good clean up and fitting the headset so we could get a better idea how the frame and forks look together and we weren't disapointed .

17/09/11 - As we're still waiting to find the right wheels for this bike , this weekend was just about sorting out a couple of smaller jobs with fitting the headset , bottom bracket , chainset and pedals . Max managed to find a very nice direct mount stem from ebay at a bargain price so that was the first to go on . We then fitted the giga pipe bottom bracket and a chainset we've been saving from Max's previous bike . We want to go single ring on this bike so off came the granny ring which just left a 32t ring and bash guard . Finally Max cleaned up an old pair of Atomlab pedals and fitted them to complete this installment . Main thing now is to trace the wheels . We think we're looking at a black and white colour scheme so we're looking for  white rims at the right price if possible.......fingers crossed .

04/02/12 - The Norco Project is finally finished . There is plenty of potential for upgrades later but the bike is ready to be ridden ! The final bike is nicely balanced and should be pretty much bomb proof ! More important than anything else Max is pleased with his first down hill bike . Can't ask for anymore than that .

Project Kinesis

08/02/12 - Project Kinesis is our latest custom build road bike based on a Kinesis Racelite KT2 frame with carbon forks . A few months back , the client , Chris , a good friend of mine , approached me and asked about possibilities of a custom build to commute to work . After a number of discussions Chris went away and did a lot of research into what would be the most suitable frame for his purpose and ended up plumping for the Kinesis 7005 Racelite KT2 and carbon fork . The frame is lightweight but strong and has the required lugs for full guards .

The following few weeks were spent sourcing the groupset and accessories needed for the perfect commuter then on 8th February a number of boxes were picked up and the build was ready to start .

Chris did an excellent job of sourcing parts which were good quality but didn't break the bank . The majority of parts were sourced from www.ribblecycles.co.uk , www.fatbirds.co.uk and www.blissbikes.co.uk .

The build up went very well without incident only needing the bottom bracked threads cleaned and faced off . As the bike came together it was obvious it was going to be a lightweight bike but still with all the necessary attachements for full guards .

The final task was fitting the bar tape which was to be left until the final fit with Chris . After 20minutes riding up and down the road , the bars and levers were adjusted for comfort and the tape was fitted . As with all new bikes it will take a while for Chris to identify if further adjustment is needed which will be dealt with in due course . All in all a lovely road bike and another happy customer
